School Tardiness

School is usually the first place where children are made aware of the importance of regular timekeeping.
Being prompt and ready to start the day on time will boost your child's confidence for the day setting them in the right frame of mind for learning and achievement.
If a child arrives late the whole class is disrupted and the teacher has to repeat the same things over and over again-losing valuable teaching time.
Punctuality and good attendance will always be important—at school now and later at work.
Help to make sure your child is given a good start in life by coming to school regularly and on time.

Why are children late for school?  We hear a variety of excuses including...

  • Overslept
  • Late Night
  • School clothes unprepared
  • Preparing breakfast for themselves or others
  • Alarm clock didn't go off
  • Calling for friends
  • Mom or Dad overslept
It is our goal at Hawthorne to reduce the number of students that are tardy to school each day.  Please work with your child for a prompt arrival each day.  All students need to be in their seats ready to start the day at 8:20 a.m. This will only help them develop a quality habit for life.   Thank you in advance for your help and cooperation.
